Last week was Next Big Thing, the biggest annual event on alt-rock station 97X’s calendar. So you think they’d take a break until 2014, right? Wrong. The station has announced that Grammy-winning hard rock outfit Switchfoot will headline a free concert on Dec. 27 at Jannus Live in St. Petersburg. Switchfoot has a longstanding relationship with 97X, dating all the way back to 2003, when the band opened Next Big Thing 3.

Back then, they were an up-and-coming group with a couple of rising hits, Meant to Live and Dare You to Move. Today they’re one of the most popular crossover Christian acts in the country. The show is free, but you need a ticket to get in. For ticket drop locations and details, go to 97xonline.com/s/lastfreeshow. —Jay Cridlin, Times staff writer
